Job Title: IT Support Assistant
Dates: April 2007 - February 2009
Location: Newcastle-upon-Type, United Kingdom

Job Outline
This role was supporting the Newcastle office of a company providing subtitles for a number of national broadcasters. The site consisted of approximately 20 users, 30 workstations (a mix of Windows 2000 and NT4) and 6 servers (a mix of Windows Server 2000 and 2003). There was also a LaCie network storage device and a network and system monitoring workstation running Nagios on the Linux operating system. Some support was also provided to the company's site in Wales, and occasionally to the head office in London, via VPN tunnels using VNC software and Microsoft Remote Desktop connections. Support duties were split between 5 staff, 4 of whom were located at the head office in London; thus communication with the department was through a mix of telephone, email, instant messenger and occasional team meetings in London. In addition to the user support and systems administration, the role included responsibilities for documenting procedures and evaluation of new software products including documentation of such evaluations.
